I was trying to paint another water colour of Siân so that I could make it into a Noel Fielding inspired piece but it was going very wrong so I gave up on it. Then Nick gave me an idea to paint the shadow on her face instead of her features (Liz may have told me about this before but I didn’t understand). I really like the portrait of Siân, it looks peaceful and like she is sleeping.
Unfortunately I don’t like any of the other “death masks” I have painted. In the two I made of myself I look like Hitler because my nose’s shadow creates a moustache that looks very much like his. I think the portraits of people I’ve made in this way look a lot older and more melancholy than they actually are.
